The 2nd Annual Future Art Awards invites all U.S. based artists of all mediums to Re-Imagine Democracy by centering the role of the artist in society. Art can be a catalyst for cross-cultural dialogue. Art can challenge and disrupt, engage and inform. Art can foster a space for creativity and innovation so critical to extending the limits of democratic possibility. Democratic vigilance, wrote Cornell West, has been a characteristic feature of the creative expression of US artists.
From the point of view of U.S. artists living and working in the here and now, what does democracy mean to you? How can we as individuals, as a community, and as a society re-imagine democracy for the future?
To democratize our philanthropy and support a diverse range of artists across the country, 10 winning artists will each receive $2,000 award honorariums. 40 special mention artists will each receive $1,000 award honorariums. Collectively, the 50 winning artists will showcase their work in the 2nd Annual Future Art Awards virtual exhibition, opening free to the public in June 2021.
