The Oscar nominated animated feature, “Persepolis”, will be coming back to a select number of theaters in April, this time in English. Released by Sony Pictures Classics, the English version will reach 100 screens nationwide on April 11.

Originally in French, the film by Iranian writer Marjane Satrapi, who also co-directed with Vincent Paronnaud, was released in December in a limited number of theaters. Satrapi and Paronnaud directed the English actors while the original French version was being completed.

“Persepolis”, based on Satrapi’s internationally best selling autobiographical graphic novel, tells the story of a young girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic revolution of the 70’s and 80’s. Along with its Oscar nomination, the film shared the 2007 Jury Prize at Cannes, and was selected at a number of prominent festivals last year.

The English language version will add some recognizable American stars lending their voices to the film, while still keeping the original voice of Marjane, performed by Chiara Mastroianni. Actor Sean Penn will play Marjane’s father, Ebi, and musician Iggy Pop will vocalize Uncle Anounche. Chaterine Deneuve’s, who also performed in the original, will again be heard as Marjane’s mother. Gena Rowlands will perform as the grandmother.
