Pablo Aravena’s film “NEXT, a Primer on Urban Painting” will be having its Los Angeles premiere in the documentary competition at the prestigious AFI Film Festival. On Saturday, November 4th, 2006 there will be a premiere party featuring a collection of new work by artists featured in the film curated by Pablo. The show will remain open to the public until Sunday, November 12th, 2006.

The Film
“NEXT, a Primer on Urban Painting” is a documentary exploration of a phenomenon that was born on the streets of American cities and has come to influence youth culture all over the world. Combining verite visual moments and interviews with painters, journalists, collectors, sociologists, DJ’s, art critics and other participants within the subculture, the film will convey the dynamism and creative brilliance of this important emerging artistic movement. The Screening Dates and Times are Fri, Nov 3rd 9:30 pm ArcLight Theatre 11 and Sat, Nov 4th 4:00 pm ArcLight Theatre 11

The Artists
Artists from all over the world will be included in this extraordinary group show. Although the line up has not been finalized, confirmed artists include: Dzine, Jose Parla “Ease”, Fafi, Shepard Fairey “Obey”, Flip, HVW8, Labrona, Nano 4814, Nina, Other, Psyckoze, Lee Quinones, Rostarr, She One, Sixe, Skwerm, Stak, Steff Plaetz, Will Barras and Zosen.

The Gallery
The gallery is a beautiful 2,500 square foot space in the heart of Los Angeles. Located at 5472 Wilshire Boulevard, just West of La Brea, the space features one main exhibition room and a smaller space in the back. The show will be open from 1PM to 7PM from Sunday, November 5th until Sunday November 12th. There is plenty of parking in the rear of the building.

The Team
Pablo Aravena – (pablo@nextthemovie.com): Presently interested in exploring the multiple dimensions of urban culture, Pablo Aravena is a Montreal-based director/editor. In 1997, he graduated from Concordia University’s Film Production Program. He has held various positions as a freelancer in the film and television industry in Canada. He has also directed short films, music videos and music-related video reports. “NEXT, a Primer on Urban Painting”, is his first documentary film.

Seth Carmichael – (seth@carmichaelpr.com): Seth is an independent film producer and the Director of Acquisitions and Development at Goldcrest Films. As a former publicist he has experience producing over 200 live events around the world. He originally became interested in the emerging art scene while living in New York City where he briefly helped run a small gallery in the Lower East Side. He currently resides in Los Angeles and this is the first of many shows he will be involved in there.
