With performances by Chuck Berry, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Jan and Dean, Lesley Gore, James Brown, The Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones. Young director Steve Binder made his feature debut with this film of a 1964 concert at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium featuring infamous garage and surf acts, Motown’s brightest stars, and British Invasion legends.
This presentation features long ‘unseen’ footage, including the Beach Boys performance, and a special bonus extra never theatrically screened.
Cinespia founder John Wyatt says “The energy of the TAMI show is what makes it such a special experience. Director Steve Binder manages to capture the excitement of the audience, the dynamism of the performances and the gusto of the dancers in a way that makes you feel like you’re really there. Seeing the raw power of these superstars at the beginning of their careers is spectacular and can floor even the most jaded viewer.”
This event marks the first co-presentation of Cinespia and the Don’t Knock The Rock film and music festival founded by Alison Anders, “We are so excited to work together with Alison to present this incredible film. Don’t Knock the Rock has long been one of the best things about the film scene in LA,” says John Wyatt.
Chicago’s DJ Dante Carfagna is being flown out just for this special night! DJ Dante spins before and after the screening.
