The first annual KidzFlix Children’s International Film Festival opens May 14 to 16, 2010 at the Community Theater in Fairfield, CT. The festival will showcase a lineup of both feature length and short films appropriate for kids of all ages. The mission of the KidzFlix Children’s International Film Festival is to educate and inspire a younger audience by giving them the opportunity to see dynamic and unique films made by filmmakers in the community and around the world.

Films have been selected through several means: Award winners and favorites at major children’s film festivals in the last two years and through an open call for submissions. The program includes live action, animation and documentaries, and shorts and features. The festival committee has sought especially films with content that speaks positively to children of diverse backgrounds and ethnicities. Parents will find a range of films for different age groups, with useful guidance for content and age appropriateness.

KidzFlix is proud to announce that it will be screening the Academy Award nominated film “The Secret of Kells.” Do not miss this amazing Irish animated masterpiece about magic, fantasy and Celtic mythology! Directed by Tomm Moore, it’s a story about the power of imagination and faith that carries humanity through dark times. Other feature films are “Azur and Asmar,” a gorgeous animated film from French director Michel Ocelot, offers a fantastic tale of adventure and friendship between cultures. “Sita Sings the Blues” is a truly unique animated blend of comedy, musical and epic storytelling backed by a soundtrack from legendary 1920’s jazz singer Annette Hanshaw. “Razzle Dazzle” is an Australian mockumentary that skewers the absurdities of the intense competition between kids on the youth dance troupe circuit—and the hyper-involved parents who live through them. A hilarious cross between Best in Show and All That Jazz, “Razzle Dazzle” mixes colorful characters, outrageous costumes, and show-stopping dance numbers. Admission is $7.00 for kids 6-18 and $9.00 for adults. Tickets will be available online and on the day of the screening.
