After a success last winter the Festival of European Cinema heralds the opening of the French ski resort. It showcases some of the best of European independent cinema.

There’ll be around 60 films from all over Europe being shown in 120 screenings around Les Arcs and Bourg Saint Maurice. The first edition of the Festival last December attracted 9,000 people to the screenings. They came from 28 countries, and there were 500 movie professionals at the various events.

First year successThere’s a competition between 12 feature films to be crowned best in show and win the “Crystal Arrow” award, voted for by a jury. The Festivals declared role is to cast light on directors whose films are poorly circulated outside their home countries.

The event will comprise films produced or co-produced in one or more European countries and the winners will be granted financial aid so that their film can be distributed throughout Europe as well internationally. Last year “London Nights – Unmade Beds”, an English movie by Alexis Do Santo’s won the “Crystal Arrow” award.

This year’s Festival will be staged from the 11th – 18th of December 2010.
