SEPTEMBER X, 2014 (LOS ANGELES) – Member States from the European Union will hold the first annual EUphoria Film Festival, celebrating films from across the European Union, at the USC School of Cinematic Arts (SCA), it was announced by the USC School of Cinematic Arts (SCA), European Languages and Movies in America (ELMA) and 13 EU Consulates in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The festival will be held at the USC School of Cinematic Arts Complex from September 19 – 24, 2014. All screenings will be free and open to the public, except for the opening night ceremony and presentation of Pantelis Voulgaris’s Little England from Greece. Most screenings will be followed by conversations with invited filmmakers. Learn more at EUphoriaFilmFestival.com

“The EUphoria Film Festival is an exciting opportunity to indulge in our passions for European cinema, which have rich and unique heritages, much like the countries they represent,” said Alessandro Ago, SCA Director of Programming “My goal is to inspire our students to explore other cultures through the cinematic lens, hopefully igniting a curiosity for discovery that will inform them throughout their academic careers and beyond.”

The festival is comprised of feature length dramatic and documentary films from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg and Poland.

“Culture plays an important role in conveying European identity and values: liberty, democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law,” said João Vale de Almeida, the EU Ambassador to the United States. “Since the EU’s very beginning, we have been a community based on these common principles, which guide Member States and citizens as they live, work, and interact with each other, with neighbors, and with the wider world.”

The EUphoria Film Festival Leadership Committee includes: Alessandro Ago, Director of Programming, USC School of Cinematic Arts; Pascal Ladreyt, Founder & CEO, European Languages and Movies in America (ELMA); and Michal Sedlacek, Consul General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles.
