The lecture, labeled 50 Years with Akira Kurosawa: An Evening with Teruyo Nogami, will feature featurr Teruyo Nogami, who closely worked with the acclaimed director for nearly 50 years as his assistant director. “So Simple”, a film that provides an exploration into the life of a middle class woman living in Iran, was awarded two of the top prizes over the weekend at the 30th Moscow International Film Festival. A week packed with 300 short films ended on Monday June 9th in Hamburg. The 24th International Short Film Festival screened 214 of almost 4.000 submitted short films in the competitive categories and a further 100 films in non-competitive special programmes. Today the official jury of the 61st Cannes International Film Festival announced the winners of this year’s competition. Presented by actor Robert Deniro at today’s closing ceremony, the Palme d’Or was given to French filmmaker Laurent Cantet, whose film “The Class” (Entre Les Murs), took home the festivals top prize. Today it was announced that Belgian director Bouli Lanners’ “Eldorado” has won the Europa Cinemas Label (http://www.europa-cinemas.org/en/index.php) as Best European film in the Directors’ Fortnight section in Cannes. Eruopa Cinemas is a network that provides financial support for cinemas that commit themselves to playing non domestic European films.
