On Saturday March 24th Cinema Without Borders and East Los Angeles College celebrate the 4th edition of their annual International Animation Day. The 2018 event is called Latin American Animation Day. Jaime Cañas, a Chilean animation artist is among individuals that has helped to make this event happen.

Here is our video interview with Mr. Jaime Cañas about his work and state of animation in Chile.

Jaime Cañas was born in Santiago of Chile. After some design studies he moved to Germany, where Jaime studied animation at the “Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen, Konrad Wolf”, in Postdam, near Berlin.

In Germany Jaime got several jobs as animator and line producer for tv series at Hahn Film, and features films like “Lars, der kleine Eisbär, Part 1″ at Motion-Works.

In 2000 he returned to Chile and began to work as animation teacher in several educational institutions and as freelance animator and line producer.

At the moment Jaime is working as Line Producer for Arce Studios, a creative studio dedicated to the development of concepts for TV shows.

Bijan founded Cinema Without Borders, an online publication dedicated to promotion of international cinema in the US and around the globe, eighteen years ago and still works as its editor in chief. Bijan is has also been a columnist and film critic for the Iranian monthly film related medias for 45 years and during the past 5 years he has been a permanent columnist and film reviewer for Film Emrooz (Film Today), a popular inranian monthly print film magazine. Bijan has won several awards in international film festivals and book fairs for his short films and children's books as well as for his services to the international cinema Bijan is a voter for the 82nd Golden Globe Awards
