Ninja Scroll is widely viewed as one of the most influential anime movies of all time. Fans around the world will tell you that it’s not just the incredible art or the vivid action sequences. Written and directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri (also responsible for Wicked City), Ninja Scroll was theatrically released in Japan on June 5th 1993 and received an English-dubbed release through Manga Entertainment in 1995.
The film has been cited by The Wachowskis as an influence on the Matrix franchise, and resulted in Kawajiri later contributing to two segments of the anthology film The Animatrix.
In honor of the 30 year anniversary, Iconic Events and Anime Expo Cinema Nights has scheduled limited showings of this classic in theaters around the country through September 16th with an exclusive interview with writer and director Yoshiaki Kawajiri.
