Today the Sundance Institute announced that filmmakers John Morgan and Meg LeFauve have received the Maryland Filmmakers Fellowship to help make their feature film, “The Cavanaughs”. The annual fellowship will provide the filmmakers with a $10,000 grant for advanced development and pre-production of their film.
Created in 1993 by the independent producer Jed Dietz, the Maryland Filmmakers Fellowship was initiated as a way to promote the state as an ideal location for filmmaking.
“The generous support of the Maryland Filmmakers Fellowship will have a real impact in providing Meg and John, the filmmakers, with the resources they need to move forward into the next stage in getting this film made,” said Michelle Satter, Director of the Institute’s Feature Film Program. “They will now be one step closer to sharing with audiences their voices and bringing this film to life.”
LeFauve and Morgan developed the idea for their film at last year’s Sundance Directors and Screenwriters Lab. The two filmmakers are currently working with producer Julie Lynn (“The Jane Austen Book Club”, “Nine Lives”), who is helping in the process of getting the film made.
“The Cavanaughs” tells the story of an evangelical family thrown into chaos after the mother of the family falls in love with a woman, rejects motherhood, and renounces her faith. In turn, the family is forced to establish new meanings of family, love, and identity.
John Morgan is a graduate of UCLA’s MFA film directing program, where he won numerous awards for his work. Meg LeFauve has produced the “The Secret Lives of Altar Boys” while working as an executive at Egg Pictures, as well other notable films.
