The South Dakota Film Festival announced it would officially begin selling tickets online effective Thursday for this year’s festival, which will be held September 19-21 in Aberdeen. The 2nd Annual South Dakota Film Festival will take place in downtown Aberdeen’s historic Capitol Theatre and is expected to be a sold out event. Last year over 36 feature and short films from around the world were presented to a crowd of over 450. This year more than 55 national and international films have already been submitted and are being adjudicated for showing.
“We hope to have a lot of filmmakers on hand to talk with audience members about their films,” said Troy McQuillen, Co-producer of the event. “The general public will be able to see films they may not normally have the chance to see. The South Dakota Film Festival will also be a great opportunity for filmmakers to see the work of other successful filmmakers.”
The South Dakota Film Festival is becoming a premier event in South Dakota, and is an opportunity for filmmakers to display their artistic abilities. Those who attend the event could be impressed by the wide variety of short and feature length films that will be exhibited.

“There is a potential for a sellout, so I encourage everyone to buy their tickets as soon as possible,” said McQuillen.
The event will also host the South Dakota Film Festival’s first ever “Vendor Expo” which will be an educational experience for all who attend. Vendors include Sanyo, who will bring the South Dakota Film Festival to life with their High Definition Projector; Sennheiser who will bring professional audio gear; Spectrum Films of Sioux Falls, who will exhibit large-scale movie making equipment; and Panasonic with a variety of products.
“The Vendor Expo is a very exciting expansion to the festival,” said Tom Black, Co-producer of the South Dakota Film Festival. “It is the only film industry specific expo in our region and a great opportunity for everyone to learn a little more about the film industry.”
Submissions for films are still being accepted until July 31, 2008. Films can be submitted under the categories of animated, narrative, and documentary and there is no limit to the number of quality films that can be submitted.
The South Dakota Film Festival is a collaborative effort between the Aberdeen Film Society and the Aberdeen Community Theatre. The mission of the festival is to provide a venue for Midwest filmmakers to screen films and to provide educational and networking opportunities.
